Hello Friends!
HRHCC has been in contact with the assistant principal and learning resource teachers at Holland Elementary school in Virginia Beach about their concern with the growing number of Hispanic students who were falling behind and feeling somewhat isolated due to language and culture.
Because they care about their Hispanic students, they want to start morning, lunch, and after school programs for these students to try to integrate them better with other students and help them succeed academically. As far as we know, this program would be a first for the Virginia Beach school system.
They need volunteers from the community! So if you or others you know (feel free to share this message) are interested in becoming involved, please contact us through our website (hrhcc.org). We already have a point of contact for this program (Hugo Valverde).
When you contact us, please provide your contact information (name, address, best phone #, best email) and which parts you could help out with, morning, lunch, and/or after school. We will then get in touch with you with further details. If you live near Holland Elementary, you may also stop by and let them know you are interested in volunteering with the HRHCC program. You will be asked to complete a volunteer form - please be sure to indicate on the form that you will be volunteering through the HRHCC program, and mention Hugo Valverde's name.
Thank you for considering this volunteer opportunity - let's get this project going ASAP in 2012!
